All of the
images are available on canvas as well as photo print paper.
Kostas Petrakos personally makes each print, using the finest
digital printmaking techniques. The images are scanned using a
high resolution scanner and printed using the Epson Stylus Pro
7600 printer with UltraChrome archival inks.
How
the photographs are made
Kostas travels to Greece and the Greek
Islands every summer. He uses a 4X5 format Toyo View camera with
Rodenstock lenses as well as Hasselblad to capture images unto
transparency film. Kostas primarily uses Fuji Chrome Velvia film
which he finds to have the most vivid colors. He typically
photographs the subject many times and captures the light at just
the right moment. This requires him to take the photographs very
early in the morning or at sunset.
After developing the transparencies, Kostas
selects the best images by carefully examining each image at his
light table. He then scans the selected images at about 250
megabytes to preserve all the fine details captured on the film.
Kostas then uses Adobe Photoshop running on Windows XP to further
fine tune each image
Expected display
life of prints
Light fading tests that have been conducted predict
a display life of over 60 years before noticeable fading of these
UltraChrome archival pigment prints. These tests are based on
standard indoor display conditions. |
